I know it's been a while since my last update. However, this falls in the "no news is good news" category. My recent conversations with mom (and dad) have been encouraging. Dad continues to make incredible progress including recovering a good portion of his reading comprehension. Being able to read the newspaper, for example, should not only continue stimulating his mind but also reinforce his language recovery.
It's difficult, of course, to have a phone conversation with dad, but I very much enjoy hearing his voice. Mom continues to be a strong supporter and motivator, encouraging dad to step out of his comfort zone no matter how difficult it may seem.
I must say that I have felt from both of them a growing sense of frustration and antipathy toward the whole situation. This is understandable, especially because dad is now much more aware of what he can do and, more to the point, what he cannot do. I remind them that it has only been two months, and he is still on a steep trajectory, but it's difficult for both of them to live like this day-in and day-out.
So... With my dad's 70th birthday coming up in a week, I encourage all of you to send Ellie and Chuck your words of encouragement and support. They could really use a "pick-me-up" right about now.
