Quick hello

Dad wanted to share a quick hello from rehab. We're all excited for him to return home tomorrow.

Fun fact: dad can sing songs with amazing clarity. Well, none of our family members can carry a tune, but you get what I mean.

Today he sang "Row, row, row your boat" during PT, and afterward he sang "Happy Birthday" to Cheyenne. Apparently the right brain, which was undamaged, stores all the music. It's amazing: after going for almost two weeks without hearing a word from him, here he is articulating the words from a song with comparative ease. Fascinating. In any event, we plan to use this as a tool during his recovery.

More to come tomorrow.

  2. So good to hear of the steady and encouraging progress being made by Uncle Chuck! The brain is an amazing organ and it will undoubtedly continue to recover steadily. My good high school friend had a very similar incident (lesion location and speed to ER care). His biggest frustration was language - connecting words he wanted to say with his mouth. After working regularly with a speech therapist, he has had nearly full recovery. Fingers crossed for a similar outcome here!

Please keep the updates coming - they are great.
Love from the entire Diehl crew - Jeff
