I just rolled in this evening from Marblehead and went straight to see mom and dad at the rehab center. All I can say is that dad looks amazing - what a difference since Sunday! The swelling in his eyes has completely disapated; the right side of his mouth is raised up; his right hand is moving much better; and his demeanor is positive and hopeful.
He is also much more verbal and expressive with his arms and hands, and he is clearly picking up on more conversation. Still a long way to go on the language, but physically-wow!
He's on track to come home on Monday, which gives mom and me some time to shop for groceries, buy some food preparation equipment, and prepare his room. I spoke with the home care providers and insisted that the speech therapist visit ASAP for the evaluation. She is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, so I plan to stay until then to determine how many days per week he will receive. We also have two potential private speech therapists lined up to fill in all of the day's not covered by home care. I feel like things are really coming together, but I don't want to jinx it.
Oh, one other thing, dad's doing much better with solid food. It's still going to be colored mush for a while, but we're hopeful that we can introduce the solids within the next week or two.
At this point, the critical issues are language and swallowing, and I think we have a good plan in place for both.
Stay tuned...
Todd
